Trying not to indulge my inner PJ, I have been
looking-but-not-touching many different products I've seen around lately. One line that I really want to try is the Shea Moisture line. I really like what I have seen so far because the ingredients look good, the packaging is nice (not required but always a plus), and they smell great. My mom came to visit last weekend and she brought one of the products with her so I was able to get a "preview" if you will. Many times over the past week I have driven by Target and I literally had to talk myself out of going in to purchase them. I tell myself that I have a hodgepodge of products I need to finish up before I go out and spend money on more. Once I have done that, I am allowed to purchase the Shea Moisture line but not a moment before. Thank goodness there is no Walgreens around here since apparently they are having a BOGO sale as we speak and I might have broken down! Will power ain't easy!
So, in the meantime, I have been lurking online to check out reviews from other naturals who've tried it. I saw some
here,
here, and
here. Most people seem the really like this line and have nice things to say. Of course we all know that each head is an individual and so I take everything I read with a grain of salt. That being said, the outlook seems promising.
Have you all tried these products? If so, tell me what you think and how you use them. Which of the different "flavors" would you suggest?
I absolutely love the replenishing shampoo. It makes my 4b and my daughter's 3b hair feel clean yet not stripped. The deep moisture masque was great as a leave-in but not so much as a deep conditioner unless I doctored it up w/honey and EVOO. I have not tried the rest of the line but it is worth trying during the BOGO.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to try it so when I saw Walgreens had bogo I decided to go for it. I really like the Curl Smoothie and the deep treatment masque because they help eliminate the fizz, and also keep my 4a hair really moisturized and shiny.
ReplyDeleteIn my area there may have been 2 SM products on the shelves! They literally flew out of the store by the time I got there!
ReplyDeleteI have and I LOVE it!!! I also spent months wringing my hands as I walked past. I use the Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie and the shampoo.
ReplyDeleteWhen you run out of products at home...I highly recommend.
I have tried the deep treament masque and I like it. I have tried the hibiscus(orang/peach label)line(2productx) I did not like this too much, just sitting on my shelf.Maybe I should use this in the summer. It was very light on my hair. Again I like the masque:)Leaves my hair soft:)Never used the masque as a leav in.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting ready to take my kinky twist out after having them in for a few months (shame on me)and I'm really looking for natural products with no alchohol in them to care for my natural hair. I was in Target yesterday when the Shea Moisture shelf caught my eye. I was looking for an alternative to the hot oil treatment because the ones available to me have all sorts of dye and chemicals in them. The She Moisture hair mask just looked and sounded so good, with such natural and organic ingredients that despite the high price, I ended up buying it. Smells great too. Haven't tried it yet but when I do I will let you know. : )
ReplyDeleteI am on a product ban for ALL of 2011! This means I am not allowed to by any hair, skin or makeup products. The reality is that I have enough sutff to last a whole year..lol So far I've been sticking to it, but sweet Jesus it's hard sometimes ;)
ReplyDeleteThe shea moisture line is really good and I am also happy to spend money on their products because it is a black owned company. I am also happy that their masques, which to me resemble hair butters, are $11 or less and are made well enough that I dont have to use a lot when I moisturize once or twice during the week. I have the coconut and hibiscus shampoo, mask and spray and all I can say is that they moisturize my hair very well. The shampoo for the coconut and hibiscus line also helps to detangle. The replenishing line's shampoo is very moisturizing and has a nice smell. I used the masque which they said was a deep conditioner or leave in but was not impressed with it as a conditioner or a leave in because again it felt like a hair butter, however, I did use the masque to seal in my leave in. Because of the walgreens sale I got a lot of their products and definately won't buy any more products for the rest of the year. I am just so happy that Shea moisture came out because previously I was spending over $20 to get hair butters from online companies. Now I am getting products of the same or better quality for waaaay less money. Hopefully, when you are finished with your stash, you can give them a try.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Congratulations on your newborn and he is soooooo cute.
I absolutely love the Shea Moisture Line. I use the Hair Milk, Curl Smoothie, the raw shea butter shampoo and I just bought the conditioner. I think the products are really great and you can't beat the prices.
ReplyDeleteI love the coconut $ hibiscus style/curling milk. I use it as a moisturizer for wet twists and braids. I apply it wet (or damp) hair with a little jojoba oil then twist/braid, let dry, then take them out. Love it! I get shiny and moisturized hair. I also use the style milk and a bit of water to re-twist or re-braid at night.I can go about a week with this process before I wash or co-wash again. I also like the deep treatment mask as a moisturizer and a dt. I've been happy with all my SM purchases (shampoo & conditioner, too) so far, but the above two are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI tried the Hibiscus & Coconut Moisture Mist and Curl Smoothie during the BOGO free special at Walgreens. I absolutely love it! I am unsure how I slept on this brand. They are now my "Holy Grail"! My hair is so soft and moisturized. I am getting 3-4 days out of a twistout. For me, that is unheard of. I would encourage you to try it. You won't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for all your comments and advice. Like I said in the post, I really don't know that I've heard a BAD review per se. I like how so many of you were able to use the products in a way that benefited you when they didn't work necessarily as described. I agree with many of you that it is nice to get good products with nice ingredients for a reasonable price. I can't wait to use up my other stuff now!
ReplyDeletewell, here's a semi-bad review. the first time i used the Organic C & H Conditioning Curl & Style Milk and the Curl Enhancing smoothing, I got such a headache and wanted to puke. I get a little heavy handed with my products. This is not a product to be heavy handed with. It has an underlying chemical scent that most cheap products have. The 2nd time I used it, I applied a very light touch. It worked ok. I won't buy it again unless i have no choice. My products have been sitting on the shelf for months now. I forget I have them. In a word: Underwhelming.
ReplyDeleteI have the Curl Smoothie and I absolutely love it. Leaves my dry twistouts super fluffy and soft. You only need a little bit. The first time I used it, I used way too much and didn't like it at all.
ReplyDeleteI am in love this this product line. I went to walgreens and picked up products buy one get one free. I have the Curl Smoothie cream and the coconut hibicus mist. The smell is great and I was able to get a very defined braidout with the Curl smoothie. Great products..worth a try.

Great post! I just awarded you the "Stylish Blogger Award". You may check it out at this link http://elegantnatural.blogspot.com/2011/04/i-was-awarded-stylish-blogger-award.html
ReplyDeletethe deep treatment mask was NOT the biz for me. I remember when they used to sell the black soap bar at Target a while back before shea moisture became popular. i loved that soap so i'm glad to see it back but i can't find it sold by itself just in that whole package with other stuff i don't want lol. i may try the regular conditioners tho too.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this line! The Curl Enhancing smoothie is EVERYTHING!! Truthfully, the whole line (including body products) works wonders for me. I suggest you definitely stop by the nearest Target and give them a try.
