Natural in the News

I just saw this video over at BGLH and wanted to repost it here in case you missed it. I think aside from the media and all that, the biggest influence over our children's self esteem and self-perception comes from the people closest to them. That goes for weight, skin color, and hair. Take a look and share your thoughts.

  1. very nice video. was very nice to see how the women were so much freer without the toll that wigs, relaxers, and hair extensions took not only on their wallets, but on their real hair. they looked so much more beautiful with their natural selves. it was also great to see the woman whose choice to BC made her little daughter feel more confident about her own natural hair. thank you for sharing!

  2. I also am going natural because of my girls. My oldest is 8 and I wanted to be an example to her. Going natural is freeing. We are beautiful just the way we are and that's what I want to teach my daughters and reiterate to myself. This was nice to see. Thanks for the post.

  3. I'm really interested in knowing what the view response was to this reporter and her transition...I think its great though AND I agreed with the anchor, she looked aged with all that hair before.

  4. Praise the Lord, I'm natural myself and it was the best thing that I have ever done! The story was very nice and encouraging.

  5. Very nice video. It'll be nice to see how long she keeps her hair natural for on-camera work. I'd also like to see more journalists wearing their hair natural. As a former natural hair journalist, who had a co-worker who anchored the newscast with her hair locked, I know it can work well.

I still don't understand when women talk about natural hair not looking professional in the workplace. Braids, especially canerow styles, are such an easy option. If your hair is locked, you can style in in a variety of buns, up-dos or pull it back in a ponytail so that you look appropriate in a corporate environment.

  6. In my opinion this is what the Good Hair movie should have been...
