Last week, I braided the hair in sections with some conditioner and coconut oil and let it dry overnight. I took them down the next day and this is what I ended up with...

Like I said, for the most part I am super pleased with my hair. But I did feel like they were a little sparse for my taste and I wanted there to be more of the individual braids. So, a week from this past Saturday, I took down each braid and split them in half. It took me like 4 hours on Saturday night and a couple of hours on Sunday, including a few breaks. I am much happier with the results now. It is kind of hard to see in the pics but I can tell when I look in the mirror and when I run my hands through them. There is less space and they are much thicker.
These pics are during the morning on last Sunday. I wasn't quite finished but I was beginning to like what I saw. Once I finished, I wet them and applied conditioner and gel to curl the ends.
This Saturday marked the beginning of week three and I don't see myself taking them down anytime soon. I want to try the braid-out again so if I do and it looks different, I'll post the results. The next experiment will be with rollers so we'll see how that turns out. I will be sure to take some pics for you!
Super doper cute. Next month I'll be 1 yr post BC, I cant wait!
ReplyDeletelook good Les.
ReplyDeleteYour hair is so LONG Leslie! Goodness, if I didn't know better, I'd be jealous. *smile* I've been trying a similar style with two strands the past two weeks. I like it a lot, but my hair seems to unravel a bit. Weird, sometimes my hair seems very kinky and then others it seems very straight, it doesn't hold twists.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration! for
Thanks miss royal! My hair sounds a lot like yours in the respect that it sometimes seems like it won't hold styles. If I use too much shea butter before a twist set it sometimes gets really limp. Did you blow your hair out before you twisted? Sometimes that affects the hold for me. I would love to see pics!
ReplyDelete@Gigi and medinaGreen- Thanks ladies!
hey just passing through-love your hair in the braids! i am rocking individuals right now and i am due for a wash but i'm not ready to take them down yet. do you get much shrinkage after washing the braids? and how do you keep fuzziness at bay afterwards and keep them looking neat?
ReplyDeleteThe first two pics of the braidouts, are so cute! Love that style on you! Glad to see the braids are working out for you.
ReplyDeleteLove your hair! THis will also be a great style for the hot summer months. I'm trying to come up with options for easy summer styles since I'll be having a baby in July. I may need to try this out.
ReplyDeleteYour hair doesn't get fuzzy at all. After three weeks, this is a pretty great result. How much longer are you keeping these in?
ReplyDelete@Jc-I agree, they are holding up surprisingly well. The braids themselves are not fuzzy whatsoever. The roots at the top of my head are getting fuzzy though, but I don't mind this. I am going to keep these in for at least 2 months I hope. After that, we'll see...
ReplyDeleteI might take the top ones down and redo them after a while.
cute style, must have been a lot of work getting them in.

I wish I could do that hairstyle. I can only do medium sized plaits with most of it twisted towards the end. My hair shrinks and gets knotty in small plaits.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great.
Top pic is very cute. Can't wait til my hair gets that long. My hair is growing out, not down. lol
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a little party with friends to help you undo them! That's a lot of work.
Very nice though.
